The short answer: five working days for a proper custom suit, three days if you compromise on fittings and canvas, seven days if you want Savile-Row-comparable finishing. The long answer is the one you actually need before you book a flight.

Most tourists book the standard 5-day build. It’s the sweet spot: enough time for two real fittings, a properly cut and assembled jacket, and a relaxed schedule that doesn’t eat your holiday.
What’s happening on each day
Day 1, consultation, fabric, measurement
60-90 minutes. We talk about what you want, walk through the fabric room, take 18-24 measurements, and finalise a written quote. 50% deposit paid. Cloth is committed.
Day 2, cutting and basting
You do whatever tourists in Phuket do on day 2 (the beach, usually). Behind the scenes, your cloth is laid out on a cutting table, a pattern is drafted to your measurements, and the jacket and trousers are cut. Pieces are loosely stitched together with long basting threads so the garment can be tried on and taken apart again.
Day 3, first fitting
30-45 minutes. You try on the basted suit. It looks unfinished because it is. The tailor looks at shoulder balance, chest closure, waist suppression, sleeve length, trouser break. Pins and chalk marks go in where adjustments are needed.
Day 4, rebuild
The basted suit comes apart, the cloth is re-cut where pins indicated changes, the lining is attached, canvas is stitched in, buttons go on. This is where the real labour is.
Day 5, final fitting and pickup
30 minutes. Minor refinements only, millimetre adjustments to sleeve length, trouser break, collar sit. You pay the remaining 50%. You walk out with the suit in a garment bag.
Can you compress to 3 days?
Yes, with specific compromises:
- One fitting instead of two. Instead of basted + final, you get a single fitting on day 2 evening or day 3 morning. Any fit error at this stage ships with the suit.
- Fused canvas. The horsehair canvas inside the jacket front is glued rather than hand-stitched. Looks identical for the first year; bubbles after three or four dry cleanings.
- Machine buttonholes. Machine-worked buttonholes are a zigzag stitch. Functional but visibly different from the silk hand-stitching of a real bespoke suit.
We deliver 3-day suits honestly, and we price them slightly below the 5-day build because less labour goes in.
Can you compress to 2 days?
Only for repeat customers whose pattern we already have, or with very significant compromises:
- Pattern is pulled from our block library (standard sizes, not yours unless you’re a returning customer).
- Single fitting or none.
- Fused everything.
- Machine-finished.
What you’re buying in 2 days is made-to-measure at best, not bespoke. If that’s all the time you have, buy a good MTM suit and accept the limits, or wait until your next trip.
Why 7 days matters for the top tier
A full hand-finished suit with three fittings and a hand-stitched horsehair canvas is genuinely a seven-day job. The canvas alone takes a skilled finisher 4-6 hours to stitch in by hand. Hand-stitched buttonholes take 30 minutes each. Pick-stitching along the lapels, tacking the lining by hand, pressing and re-pressing between stages, none of this is optional, and none of it is fast.
If you’re spending THB 35,000+ on a tier-D suit, insist on the 7-day timeline. Paying for a full-canvas luxury suit and getting a 3-day rush build is a failed transaction.
Practical planning for your trip
If you’re on a 5-7 day trip to Phuket, plan the tailor this way:
- Arrival day or the next morning: walk-in, consultation, measurement.
- Day 3 or 4: first fitting.
- Day of departure minus 1: final fitting and pickup.
Leave at least one day between final fitting and flight home in case a small adjustment is needed.
If you’re on a 3-day trip, the math is tight. You can still get a suit, but your fitting and pickup will be on the same day. Not ideal.
If you’re on a 10-day trip, you have time to order two suits, or order one and explore fabric options. Some customers do their first fitting on day 3, spend day 4-7 elsewhere in Thailand, and come back for the final fitting on day 8 or 9.
What makes a build faster than it should be
A shop offering a 2-day bespoke suit is doing at least one of these things:
- Using a pre-made jacket shell and altering it (not really bespoke).
- Skipping the basted fitting entirely (first fitting is on near-final garment, no room to fix shoulder balance).
- Outsourcing cutting and stitching to a volume workshop (loss of quality control).
- Running full-time night shifts (labour abuse that your price is subsidising).
If none of those apply, it’s genuinely 5+ days. Period.
