Patong’s two main retail destinations, Jungceylon and OTOP Shopping Paradise, each host multiple tailor shops, and they’re different environments. If you’re choosing where to do your fabric consultation, understanding the vibe helps.
Jungceylon, the polished mall
Location: Central Patong, east side of Rat-U-Thit 200 Pee Road at the Bangla junction. Size: Large, multi-level indoor mall. International and Thai brands. Vibe: Air-conditioned, glossy, Westernised. Food court, cinema, department stores alongside specialty shops.
Tailor presence at Jungceylon
Several tailor shops operate inside Jungceylon, mainly on upper levels. They tend to be:
- Higher rent, passed through to pricing (suits often THB 2,000-5,000 above street-equivalent tiers).
- More tourist-focused, with staff trained in multi-language sales.
- Sometimes branches of shops that also have street-front locations elsewhere.
Strengths: Consistent AC, easy to browse, international-standard shopping experience. Good if you want to combine tailor visit with other shopping.
Weaknesses: Less transparency on fabric provenance (it’s harder to see a mill card or bolt origin in a mall shop). Rents tend to select for tourist-pricing business models.
OTOP Shopping Paradise, the craft centre
Location: Rat-U-Thit 200 Pee Road, 400 metres north of Bangla. Size: Medium, two-level retail complex. Originally built to consolidate local Phuket artisan and craft businesses. Vibe: More local, more specialist, less international-brand. Food court on 2nd floor with genuine Thai dishes.
Tailor presence at OTOP
OTOP was designed for businesses that represent Phuket’s craft heritage. Tailor shops here tend to be:
- Longer-established (some have been at this address since OTOP opened in 2018).
- More directly connected to a workshop, several shops have their actual cutting/sewing rooms visible to customers.
- Priced at standard street rates, not mall premiums.
Our shop is here: New David Jone Fashion, 237/7 Unit 101, front-left of the building. We’ve been at OTOP since 2018; before that, we operated elsewhere in Patong from 1999.
Strengths: Authentic feel, walkable to both Bangla nightlife and Rat-U-Thit commercial strip, air-conditioned with ramp accessibility. Genuine workshop visibility.
Weaknesses: Smaller than Jungceylon, less “one-stop” shopping if you want to combine a lot of different purchases in one trip.

Which to use
Go to Jungceylon if:
- You want air-conditioning for an extended multi-purpose shopping session.
- You’re combining tailor visit with cinema, other shopping, or a meal at a Western chain.
- You don’t mind paying slight mall premium for convenience.
- You want a polished, international-standard environment.
Go to OTOP if:
- You want to see workshops and speak with the people actually making your suit.
- You prefer local Thai food options.
- You’re price-conscious and want street-level rates.
- You want to combine the tailor visit with a walk through Patong’s commercial life rather than a mall bubble.
A note on shop-hopping between both
Both locations are walking distance from each other (about 5 minutes). A practical strategy: visit 2 shops at Jungceylon, 2 shops at OTOP, compare all four quotes over lunch. You’ll get a clear sense of price range and quality variation across both environments.
What to expect at our shop (OTOP)
When you walk into New David Jone Fashion at OTOP:
- You enter the fabric room immediately, ~900 active bolts along three walls.
- The cutting table is visible through a glass partition on your right.
- Sewing machines are on the far side of the cutting table, also visible.
- Fitting rooms are on the left, with natural light from the street window.
- Tea or water offered within the first minute.
The whole space is about 180 m², not huge, but comfortably navigable without feeling cramped. Johnny is usually on the cutting table or at the measurement stand.
When OTOP is quieter
- Early afternoon 11:00-13:00: relaxed, best for first-time consultation.
- Late evenings 21:00-23:00: returning customers pick up, friendlier atmosphere.
- Monsoon season (May to October): quieter across the whole year. Easier to get unhurried attention.
Busiest times are 14:00-18:00 during high season (November to March), particularly weekends.
