Phuket’s wedding season runs November through February to dry weather, mild humidity, and an international guest list. Grooms planning to marry here face specific tailoring decisions: fabric for the heat, fit for the photos, co-ordination with the bride and her party. Here’s the playbook.
The Phuket groom’s fabric question
Unlike a European or North American wedding, a Phuket wedding is likely to involve at least some outdoor time, beach ceremony, garden reception, sunset photography. Your suit needs to handle 28-32°C with high humidity without looking wilted in the wedding photos.
Three fabric choices that work
1. Tropical-weight Italian wool (Super 120s, 260 g/m). Classic, photographs beautifully, holds crease. Tier C at our shop, ~THB 22,000-30,000.
2. Linen-wool blend (240-280 g/m). Cooler than pure wool, less wrinkle-prone than pure linen. Reads slightly more relaxed, good for beach-garden weddings. Tier B, ~THB 16,000-22,000.
3. Mohair-wool blend (260-280 g/m). Slight sheen, excellent drape, cool to touch. Premium choice for grooms who want a distinctive look. Tier D, ~THB 32,000-42,000.
Fabrics to avoid
- Pure linen, wrinkles too visibly for wedding photos.
- Heavyweight wool, will be too hot.
- Polyester-dominant blends, trap heat, look cheap in close-up photos.
- Light linen alone (without wool blend), the wrinkle situation by 4 PM becomes notable.
Colour decisions
Three recommended colour paths:
The classic path: charcoal or navy
Timeless. Photographs across all lighting conditions. Works for beach, garden, or hotel ballroom. Pairs with any bridesmaid palette. The default for a reason.
The tropical path: light grey, tan, or putty
Relaxes the formality. Works beautifully for daytime beach ceremonies. Limitations: less versatile for future wear outside tropical contexts.
The statement path: deep burgundy, midnight blue, or emerald
Grooms wanting to stand out from a groomsmen party. Requires thinking about how the colour reads in photos and video, darker statement colours photograph well in evening light; richer tones need reception lighting to pop.
Jacket style for the day
Three classic silhouettes for grooms:
- Single-breasted two-button, universal choice. Works for every venue.
- Double-breasted, more formal, distinctive. Better for hotel ballroom receptions than beach.
- Peak-lapel single-breasted, a half-step toward formality. Looks great in photos.
Avoid shawl-collar jackets unless you specifically want a dinner-suit/tuxedo formal look (rarely right for a destination wedding).
Groom + groomsmen coordination
Five-to-seven person wedding parties are common for destination weddings. Co-ordination strategies:
Strategy 1: Matching suits (classic)
All groomsmen in the same fabric and colour. Groom distinguished by a different pocket square, tie, or boutonniere. Clean, photographs well, low risk.
Strategy 2: Matching colour, different fabric tier
Groom in Tier C Italian wool; groomsmen in Tier B Thai wool, same colour. Saves budget without looking inconsistent. Groom wears a higher-quality tie or accessory to subtly distinguish.
Strategy 3: Groom distinct, groomsmen matched
Groom in midnight blue; groomsmen in charcoal. Photographs beautifully, the groom stands out from the party. Requires careful palette decision.
Co-ordination through accessories
- Ties: matching or complementary in colour/pattern.
- Pocket squares: coordinated to bridesmaid colours.
- Boutonnieres: coordinated with bridal bouquet.
- Shoes: similar tone (all brown, all black). Dark brown works universally for tropical weddings.

Timeline working backwards from wedding date
Practical timing for a groom flying to Phuket:
10-14 days before wedding (ideal)
Arrive in Phuket. Day 1: consultation and fabric selection. Day 3 or 4: first fitting. Day 6 or 7: second fitting. Day 10: final fitting (third if needed) and pickup. Five to six days of buffer before the wedding.
7 days before wedding (tight but workable)
Standard 5-day build with two fittings. Tight but fine if you’re committed to daily shop visits.
4 days before wedding (rush)
Only viable with compromises (single fitting, fused canvas). Not recommended for wedding photos that’ll hang on your wall for 40 years.
3+ months before wedding (remote)
Returning customers or those who’ve been to our shop once can order remotely. Measurements on file, fabric chosen by video call, suit shipped 2-3 weeks before wedding.
What about the bride’s timeline?
If the bride is also ordering from Patong, we’ll coordinate the two timelines. Bridal typically needs 10-14 days for a structured gown; groom’s suit can be completed alongside. Both pieces have final fittings within 48 hours of each other, making sure fabrics and construction quality complement.
Pricing summary for a full wedding party
A realistic budget for a groom + 4 groomsmen + father of the groom:
- Groom: Tier C Italian wool two-piece with hand-finished details = THB 28,000
- 4 × Groomsmen: Tier B wool two-piece each at THB 17,000 = THB 68,000
- Father of groom: Tier B wool two-piece = THB 17,000
- 6 × matching ties at THB 1,500 = THB 9,000
- 6 × pocket squares at THB 800 = THB 4,800
- Total: ~THB 127,000 for a cohesive 6-person wedding party.
Fittings logistics
For a groomsmen party where members arrive in Phuket at different times:
- Each person needs at least one measurement appointment + one fitting.
- We stagger orders by cutting when the full measurement set is collected.
- Latest-arriving groomsmen determine the overall delivery timeline.
- Ideally, the whole party books in advance with arrival dates, we plan the workshop schedule around it.
Delivery to hotel
For wedding orders, we deliver finished suits to your hotel on the morning of the wedding if you prefer. No extra charge. Garment bags included so the suits arrive in proper presentation.
Post-wedding
Many grooms continue to order from us after the wedding:
- A second suit on the same pattern block (remote).
- Dress shirts matched to the wedding suit.
- A travel version of the wedding suit in a different fabric (for anniversaries, speeches, events where the wedding suit is too formal).
The pattern stays on file for future orders.
